Baby Dies After Being Rescued from Deceased Mother Post-Airstrike

The Palestinian infant, who was dramatically rescued from her deceased mother's womb following an Israeli airstrike, has died in a Rafah hospital. The baby girl, named Sabreen al-Rouh by her uncle, passed away on Thursday, as confirmed by the Emirati hospital in Rafah.

Family Decimated by Airstrike

Sabreen's mother was critically injured during the airstrike and succumbed shortly after her arrival at the hospital. The baby's father and sister were also killed in the attack, which claimed the lives of at least 19 people. Sabreen's uncle, Rami al-Sheikh, collected her body on Friday to bury her alongside her father in the Awni Daher cemetery in Rafah.

Medical Efforts in Vain

Despite the efforts of the neonatal team at the Emirati Red Crescent Hospital, Sabreen could not be saved. The hospital noted that it was "the will of Allah" that she should join her family in eternity. The baby had been in critical condition since her birth, suffering from severe respiratory distress due to her premature birth.

Ongoing Conflict and Casualties

The Gaza Strip has been a focal point of intense conflict, with Israel targeting the last Hamas battalions in Rafah. The conflict escalated following a deadly attack by Hamas on southern Israel on October 7, leading to a significant Israeli offensive aimed at dismantling the Palestinian Islamist movement. The ongoing war has resulted in thousands of casualties, predominantly civilians, and has left the region on the brink of famine.

High Child Casualty Rate

The war has been particularly devastating for children in Gaza, with the Hamas Ministry of Health reporting that at least 14,778 children have died due to the conflict. The situation remains dire, with ongoing airstrikes and a looming ground offensive expected in Rafah.
