According to a report by the Financial Times, Thomas Haldenwang, the director of German intelligence, has alerted his counterparts in France, Sweden, and the UK about a significantly heightened risk of Russian state-initiated sabotage in Europe. Haldenwang emphasized the "imminence" of potential attacks that could cause extensive human and material damage, including bombings, arson, and cyberattacks. This development points to a direct escalation in tensions between Russia and Western countries.

The report also details an already underway destabilization campaign, exemplified by incidents such as a warehouse fire in the UK, which housed supplies destined for Ukraine, and the arrest of two men in Germany suspected of planning sabotage activities on behalf of Russia, targeting an American military base. These events underscore the broad scope of the threats facing Europe.

NATO has issued warnings about Russia's "malicious activities" and urged increased vigilance against potential large and small-scale destabilization efforts. Additionally, Russia's engagement in disinformation campaigns, particularly in France, has been highlighted.
